Strengthening 23 tertiary level hospitals, in Punjab and KP, for implementing TB DOTS care (Nov 01, 2007 to Oct 31, 2012)

At teaching hospitals – huge outpatient attendance but widely varied TB care practices; hospital staff training and supplement material inputs were required for introducing program-endorsed TB care protocols.

  • Location: 23 teaching hospitals in ten districts, of Punjab & KP province, with around 40 million catchment population.
  • Activities:
    • Structured implementation planning, followed by program-endorsed training of designated hospital staff (i.e. doctor, and allied and laboratory staff).
    • Supplement materials e.g. drugs, laboratory equipment and supplies, mobile phone for patient follow-up, print materials for patient care and recording/reporting
    • Intra-hospital monitoring & support of TB care
    • Patient care link with the secondary and primary level public health facilities
  • Outputs:
    • 29,388 smear-positive TB cases identified /registered at 23 hospitals (i.e. 152% of the target)
    • 92% of the registered cases successfully completed their TB treatment, as per program protocols
