Strengthening malaria control interventions in 4 selected districts of Sindh. (July 01, 2008 to Aug 31, 2013) Less than desired level of malaria case management and prevention in districts with high malaria prevalence; malaria case management, as per program-endorsed protocols, and vector control (i.e. impregnated bed nets and residual spraying for better malaria control in high priority districts. Location: four districts of Sindh Activities: Map; then assess and address the capacity enhancement needs of primary and secondary level public health facilities in each district e.g. equipment (e.g. microscope) and furniture. Train medical and allied staff at public facilities to offer malaria care as per program protocols(e.g. administer rapid testing and microscopy; also administer “ACT” to confirmed falciparum cases) Map, select and enable private clinics for managing and reporting malaria cases as per program protocols Arrange and distribute drugs and materials for malaria case management at public and private facilities Outputs: 70 and 130 health facilities strengthened as microscopy and RDT centers respectively. 375 doctors, 71 lab. Staff, and 356 allied staff trained on malaria case management. 143,830 confirmed malaria cases (59,813 falciparum) identified and treated as per program guidelines. 680,000 impregnated bed nets (LLINs) distributed ; and129,000 indoor premises covered with spraying (IRS)
