Neonatal and maternal deaths remain a public health challenge; enhanced skilled birth attendance an approach to address the challenge. Lady health workers, being gatekeepers, has potential role in promoting the skilled birth attendance.

• Location: 3 selected districts of Punjab.
• Activities:
  • More than 1500 lady health workers listed and enabled for birthing planning and emergency preparedness intervention;
  • Directory of skilled birth providers in each union council developed and provided to lady health workers in three districts.
  • More than 60,000 pregnant women were registered, offered various options for birthing planning and emergency preparedness, and followed-up for birthing experience and outcomes (including neonatal and/or maternal deaths).
  • Performance of lady health workers, as skilled birth promoters, was monitored at a regular monthly meeting at the respective facility.
• Outputs:
  • More than 60,000 women offered interventions for an informed decision/plan to get skilled birth attendance.
  • Birthing outcomes of all the registered (60,000) pregnant women recorded, reported and analyzed.
