Extension of the above FIDELIS-IV project (i.e. DOTS in 4 districts): Expanding and strengthening DOTS interventions in sixteen districts of Pakistan, through public-private partnership (July 2006 to June 2007) Coverage: 16 districts i.e. 4 ongoing phase-I districts and 12 more districts in Punjab province Activities: Enhancing the capacity of the district offices and the facilities to effectively plan, implement and monitor DOTS activities. Supplementing the equipment and material supplies as well as providing training and onsite technical support to the staff delivering TB care at government facilities One central, five regional coordinators, one IT person and one community mobilizer recruited. Training of health care staff conducted Screening of TB suspects and initiation of TB case registration Organizing and conducting community mobilization events with school teachers, religious leaders, community health workers and journalists. Outputs: Trained 320 managers oriented on DOTS plans and plans prepared for implementing DOTS activities in district 400 doctors trained on case management, 480 doctors trained on patient provider communication 400 paramedics training as DOTS facilitator, 480 paramedics training on TB07,8,9 16 district Lab supervisors trained, 60 laboratory technicians training on AFB microscopy 4000 lady health workers training on providing treatment support 206330 suspects screened, 20633 new smear positive cases detected. 13613 limited access cases and 134087 Cumulative NSP cases detected
