FIDELIS-V: Introducing and strengthening DOTS in four districts of Punjab and NWFP, through public-private partnership. March 2006 to June 2007 Coverage: Four districts in two provinces i.e. Punjab: Faisalabad and Bahawalpur; NWFP: Abbotabad and Mansehra Activities: Enhance the capacity of the district offices and the facilities to effectively plan, implement and monitor DOTS activities Training of care providers and managers, procurement and logistic support, monitoring and supervision, data management strengthening Supplementing the equipment and material supplies as well as provide training and onsite technical support to the staff delivering TB care at the facilities Screening of TB suspects and initiation of TB cases registration and examination Enabling/supporting four key agents (school teachers, community health workers, local religious leaders and local) to mobilize communities in proposed districts Outputs: 80 managers oriented on DOTS and plans prepared for implementing DOTS activities in hospitals 460 doctors trained on case management, 460 Paramedics-1 training as DOTS facilitator and 195 Paramedics-2 training 113 laboratory technicians training on AFB microscopy and 3500 lady health workers training on providing treatment support 6235 smear +ive Cases detected and 4554 TS reported Enabled 400 school teachers to mainstream TB control in their respective institutions, trained 3500 community health workers, 200 local religious leaders and 40 local journalists.
